WELCOME

Welcome to my site. I am Dr. Jayateerth Kulkarni, senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Fortis Hospitals, Bengaluru. I have specialised in Joint Replacement (Arthroplasty), Sports Medicine (Arthroscopic Surgery) and Complex Trauma surgery. I have undergone my post-graduate training in one of the premier institutes of the country. After doing my residency training in PGIMER Chandigarh, I went to England for further training. I was selected as a Specialist Registrar in Orthopaedics on the South-East Thames Rotation. This was a four-year higher surgical training programme based at Guy’s Hospital, St. Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College Hospital, London. At the end of this training I passed the FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) examination. Here, I learnt not only joint replacement surgery but also had all-around exposure to all sub-specialities of orthopaedic surgery like spine surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, foot surgery, etc. I have also done a further two years of Fellowship training in shoulder and upper limb surgery (Brighton, UK) and adult trauma and joint reconstruction (Toronto, Canada).

I have nearly 30 years of experience in Orthopaedics. My current practice includes joint replacement surgery of the knee, hip, shoulder and other joints. In addition, I perform joint preserving surgeries like osteotomy and other reconstructive procedures. I also do arthroscopic surgeries of the knee, shoulder, ankle and other joints. I was one of the first surgeons in Bangalore to perform hip resurfacing and revision knee replacements. I have done computer-navigated knee replacements and unicompartmental knee replacements, shoulder resurfacing, reverse shoulder replacement, etc., to name a few.

Joint replacement surgery

Joint replacement surgery is one of the miracles of modern medicine. It has led to a profound improvement in the lives of millions of patients suffering from arthritis. Joint replacement is advised when non-operative treatment fails to relieve the symptoms. In this procedure, the worn-out surfaces of the arthritic joint are replaced by artificial bearing surfaces (prosthesis). This provides a lasting relief of pain, restores movements to joints, corrects any deformities at the joint and improves the quality of life and functional level of the patient.

Sports medicine

Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy

Sports medicine is a subspecialty of orthopaedic surgery that deals mainly with joint injuries. They typically involve the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow, ankle and other joints. The main types of injuries are: ligament tears, damage to special structures in the joints like meniscus (knee) or labrum (shoulder), dislocations or instability of the joint, damage to the articular cartilage, and injuries to tendons. Initially, non-operative treatment is advised. However, many of these conditions require surgical treatment in the form of arthroscopic surgery.

Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic Surgery, also known as keyhole surgery, is done with the help of miniaturized telescope (Arthroscope) to visualize the interior of the joint. Special miniaturized instruments are used to perform the operation. The advantages of arthroscopic surgery are: minimal surgical scars, better characterization of the injury, minimal damage to the muscles and faster recovery.

Testimonials

  • Visited Dr.Kulkarni for the problem in the knee. Had decent conversation and he explained the probable issue (in depth) since this is 1st consultation and advised Physio for few days (after x-ray). So far all good. Let's see how it goes once I'm done with physio. I will come back & edit and post the results here. Yes they have x-ray facility in-house. They have Physiotherapy also in-house.
